Choosing the Right Plywood for Your Home: MR vs BWP Grade Explained
Walk into any plywood showroom in Siliguri and you will hear two terms repeated like a mantra — MR Grade and BWP Grade. Both look similar to the untrained eye, but the difference between the two can make or break the longevity of your furniture.
MR Grade Plywood (Moisture Resistant)
MR plywood is bonded using urea-formaldehyde resin and is designed to handle indoor humidity — not direct water. It is the right choice for wardrobes, beds, study tables, TV units and any furniture that lives in a dry, climate-controlled environment.
BWP Grade Plywood (Boiling Water Proof)
BWP is bonded with phenol-formaldehyde resin and can survive direct contact with water for hours, even boiling water. This is the grade to use for kitchen cabinetry, bathroom vanities, outdoor furniture and any space that sees moisture every day.
Quick Rule of Thumb
- Wardrobe in your bedroom? MR is enough.
- Kitchen base unit? Always BWP.
- Bathroom vanity? BWP, no compromise.
At Royal Glass House we stock ISI-marked MR and BWP plywood from Greenply, Century, Kitply and Merino — feel free to walk in and ask for a cross-section sample. Touching the actual product is the best way to feel the difference.
